THE KAMENTSÁ: Keepers of the Sibundoy Valley
The Kamentsá Peoples, also known as Camsá or Kamentšá, are an Indigenous group native to the Sibundoy Valley in the Putumayo region of southern Colombia. Renowned for their vibrant textiles, music, and spiritual ceremonies, the Kamentsá maintain a strong connection to their ancestral territory and worldview. Their culture is deeply rooted in traditional ecological knowledge, spiritual plant medicine (including the use of yagé or ayahuasca), and rituals honoring the land and cosmos.
NATURE UNTOUCHED
Mocoa, Putumayo, acts as a gateway to the Amazon, offering incredibly lush, pristine nature, including the Fin del Mundo (End of the World) waterfall, the Hornoyaco waterfall, and the steep, jungle-covered mountains surrounding it. FESTIVAL IN MOCOA
Mocoa is home to many indigenous led festivals, parades, and celebrations.
Carnaval Folclórico de Mocoa held Late December through mid-January s is Mocoa's most important festival. It features a brilliant parade of massive, handcrafted allegorical floats, traditional dance troupes. Festival del Carnaval del Agua is also celebrated around this time where the streets turn into a massive, playful water fight as locals and visitors throw water at each other to cool off and celebrate.
Other important dates include: Bëtsknaté (The Great Day) a heart healing day at the start of lent with parades of Kamëntsá people in hand-carved wooden masks. Holy Week (before Easter) which blends faith and tradition. July 20th Colombia's independence day. The anniversary of Mocoa around September 29.
